Comprehensive Look into Battle Pass Systems in Multiplayer Games

Date

July 2023

Project Type

GaaS Research Study/Competitive Analysis

Project currently underway, will update as necessary.

What aspects of battle pass systems have proven to be effective in player retention? Does the inclusion of a battle pass make games more “fun” and more interactive? How have players reacted to the inclusion of battle passes in a variety of popular games?

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of battle pass systems in video games. By conducting a comparative analysis/competitive audit, we can scan a large sample pool of games and systems and find places where players/consumers gravitate towards when playing. We seek to understand how this new form of GaaS (Games as a Service) content has performed and whether or not its implementations have successfully improved player retention. For this study, “player retention” will serve as our primary ROI.
